Vist Planning Page:
If you'd like to host Homer (and possible partner) for a tango visit to your hometown (to teach/dj/demo), here's a set of guide lines to help you organize it:
  1. Currently, I prefer to schedule only one tango trip per month (usually 4 or 5 days long and sometimes up to 12 days in duration), therefore, a 6 month or longer advance booking is recommended.

  2. Furthermore, I enjoy & benefit from working with experienced partners and believe that this enhances a community visit.   There are several partners (locally, nationally, and in Europe) that I can collaborate with and recommend for a specific trip.   The final approval of choice of partner is given to the host community.

  3. Take a look at my Travel Section and see if there are any potential visit conflicts.

  4. Contact me via email at Dolfdude@sbcglobal.net to get communications started.

  5. Use these current bio details for promotional materials, and email me to send you high-res promotional photos.

  6. Check out the following list of pre-defined tango classes that can help you construct a teaching syllabus.

  7. Workshop theme wise – we would prefer to not use the term 'nuevo' in our class titles.   We like to teach a variety of connected, musical, dynamic, interesting, creative, liberating, etc, ideas/technique/movement.   Our goal is to promote the fusion of all tango concepts via the 'one tango' philosophy rather then create extra barriers that may inhibit folks from really finding their own dance.

  8. Travel Details:  If the trip involves air travel to your city, plan on purchasing tickets in-advance for "Homer Ladas" & possible partner, and please prepare one or two optional travel itineraries for me to review & select.

  9. Workshop compensation:
    • A flat fee of $100 ($200 with partner) per class hour (or supervised practica hour) is my standard rate and should be used as a basis for calculating or negotiating total teaching income.
    • Base compensation for dj'ing is $30/hr.
    • Demos are usually 1 to 3 songs long and the base compensation is $100.
    • Reminder Note:  These base rates are somewhat flexible and can be negotiated based on workshop details (i.e. how many classes are taught, type of event/festival, profit vs. non-profit endeavors, etc)

  10. Private Lessons can also be organized around workshop classes & events.   However, it's recommended that one day be reserved for mostly privates (i.e. a Friday before or a Monday after a weekend workshop).

  11. Housing accomodations (staying in someone's home or a hotel) with separate sleeping quarters for Homer and possible partner (unless it's Cristina - then we prefer to share a private room) is a requirement.   Please note that Cristina is very allergic to cats!!!

  12. Local transportation (to/from airport and between tango events) must be provided for (whether it's sharing a ride from a local community member or a car rental).

  13. Providing (and paying for) meals during a visit is helpful (and generous), especially when the schedule is tight, but not required.   However, there must be adaquate time and facilities for food acquisition (we will buy our own food and can cook for ourselves time-permitting).

  14. Planning for 8 hours of sleep time each night would be ideal.  One night of 5 hours of sleep would also be acceptable (minimum requirement for a healthy & focused teaching mind).

  15. Tea, green or black, and maybe some good coffee is a good thing:  before classes start, during allnighters, whenever dj'ing, and before a demo...

  16. Time & circumstances permitting, I like to extend a free private lesson to the main host/organizer.

  17. In a perfect tango world, one day of taking it easy (half-day/night of work) for every three days/nights of all out tangoing would be great!
